Lightbulb View Unread Posts Plugin for MyBB
Posted by: {DO}Rigel - 06-20-2012, 07:42 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

I don't care much about "new posts" or "today's posts," I just want to see what I haven't read yet. I found a plugin for MyBB that filters for "unread posts" in a manner similar to what phpBB3 does. I think this might be exactly what I'm looking for (if it works).

Heart Could we please try this? Heart

Need a little help :: Making Mobile App for Android
Posted by: Mischief - 06-19-2012, 01:31 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (16)

So I'm using andromo.com to make sort of an companion app for Alien Arena. It currently has news feeds from the site, dev blog, new forum threads, twitter, face book, youtube channel, and I'm working on sort of a wiki type site for it. I wanted to put weapon info and images, stock maps and images, FAQ(currently have the one from chaingun.org, will give credit in app), I figure I can have a links section.....

Any other ideas? And if you have an android phone let me know, I'll PM a link and you can give me some ideas... Just know that I am limited with what I can do. I am not coding the app.

Some of the Icons I've made for the app so far:

Main: [Image: appIcon.png] Blog: [Image: blog.png] News: [Image: news.png] Facebook:[Image: facebook.png]

Resources: [Image: resources.png] Threads: [Image: thread.png] Twitter: [Image: twitter.png] Website: [Image: website.png]

EDIT: Also, I need more FAQ questions. Some of the links on the chaingun page are broken. So I had to remove some of them. I will post pics of the app once I get more stuff in it.

First of all -> well done Irritant, you do a great job for AA here! I know the AA forum is freshly hatched, but I have a criticism. As I saw the forum for the first time, I thought "Wow its green and... green!" Ok, the green color is the main color for AA (and my favorite color), but it's too much. I would a bit red into it, like the new homepage -> connection parts! Or more colors for the clarity.

Here, i made an example, what i mean!

  Need assistance.
Posted by: Irritant - 06-13-2012, 05:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

For the life of me, I cannot find how to display recent forum posts on our website. I assume I will probably have to rename index.html to index.php and add something, but I really don't know what.
I thought I found something, but the documentation blows. Google searches seem fruitless. I just search for "myBB display recent posts on website". Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. I did find one plugin for the board for this, but it was way outdated and doesn't work.

Perhaps I'm missing something. Sometimes when I click View New Posts it returns that there are no search results? When I do get a list, I can't tell which posts I've read and which I haven't. This could be the sole thing that I liked better about ProBoards. You always get a list starting with the most recent at the top and an Icon to let you know if you have read it or not.

Is there similar functionality here that I am unaware of?

Question Set a Forum Display Name

Is there a way to change your Display Name - like we used to be able to do at ProBoards?

Mumble Server! Voice Chat for AA!
Posted by: SkinMachine - 06-12-2012, 05:18 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

There is a mumble server dedicated to Alien Arena. It does not show up in the list of mumble servers that comes with mumble. Players will have to connect using the custom servers tab.

The original mumble server is no longer in service due to poor support!

What has become the official server for alienarena is here:
alienarena.mumble.com
port 3656

This server is with a different vendor that seems to have a more responsive support department. The server is fully operational.

You need to run at least version 1.2.4 to be able to use both of these servers.

My intentions are to have a place for any aa players to be able to voice chat while playing aa. I also hope that it will be used for tourneys and clan matches. Wink

You can download the mumble voice chat program at
http://mumble.sourceforge.net/
There is information at that site on installing and help with basic configuring.

setup should be fairly straight forward using the wizard. Linux users, I have no experience with linux so can offer no advice.

Readme : Cheats, drama, decisions, the way ahead

2/There is now going to a proper process for dealing with any allegations, which is going to run like this.....

Accusations, evidence, etc etc can be submitted to an op, and that op will be post them in the ops section. There it'll be looked at, discussed, and a 'committee' of devs and ops (still working out details) is going to decide on the validity/falseness of the accusation. Between those involved - any op can discuss/offer an opinion, but it's going to be that small team decides - any verdict, and any necessary measures, are going to be taken.

If someone is accused of cheating, the team is gonna ask for evidence, ask the person involved to demo stuff, etc etc, and reach a rational decision based on as much evidence as we can get.

If that team finds someone guilty of cheating, then whatever punishment is handed out stands, no amount of community hassling will change it.

If the team finds someone not guilty then hopefully that will lay things to rest, people will leave it be. (after quicky chat with another op, I wanna clarify this to say that no, it won't be a case of "innocent, you must play with them" - that is, always has been, always will be, a personal call).

Whatever this committee - mainly the devs, who I'm sure we all trust to be neutral, and to consider all evidence fairly and with an open mind - decides, that is the decision, it stands, no bitching. Obviously if further evidence turns up to change that verdict in future it would be considered though.

We need to move away from this constant war among ourselves, on this and other issues/fronts, where ops/mods/devs decide something, and there's endless lobbying/behind the scenes moaning to try and change it. It does none of us any good. Debate, discuss, yep, but end of the day, someone has to make a call, part of being a great community like we are is being able to disagree, but to support. At some point discussion/explaining has to end, action has to happen, or we go nowhere.

I know it is crappy that it has come to this, but it has been a messy year on cheat allegations/second guessing decisions over a few different situations, it's time to put an end to it all. This is the fairest and least messy way, and something that has been discussed at length in the light of recent events, hopefully the whole community will support us in this, put personal feelings aside, and see that this is the only way ahead, the only way we'll prevent this whole issue from causing ill feeling and splitting our community, something I am sure that none of us want.

Thank you Smile

  Notice to Ingame IRC users
Posted by: SkinMachine - 06-12-2012, 05:13 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

If a player uses the ingame IRC option, you ARE in the main chat channel for AlienArena, since this option was implemented us "channel ops" have had our hands full dealing with offensive ingame names, and language dropping into the chat channel. On servers, only the server op can deal with offensive names or language, to talk exclusively ingame you must press "T" then "Enter" to send ingame messages that will not show up in IRC. But be advised, anyone with offensive ingame names, talk, using the ingame IRC option risks a kick, or ban from the IRC channel. We are not trying to be a hard case here, but our jobs as ops is to keep the IRC channel for Alienarena clean. Wink
