  Banned ?
Posted by: Ian - 07-06-2012, 03:52 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (12)

It would appear that I have been banned from a server (British Invaders)

I have been trying to complain about people cheating and mods on the IRC who are supporting them and when I post on this forum (as I was instructed to do) I receive more abuse and appear to be banned.

Could I ask - is this ban permanent and, why have I been banned as I do not know why ?

  Reporting a Cheat
Posted by: Ian - 07-06-2012, 01:57 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

I read the thread above about posts will be deleted if cheats are named ...
However, I could not work out how to report a cheat (I don't know what is meant by "submit a report to an ops" ?
Please could someone identify how such a report should be done ?
Additionally, at the time, the mod in IRC chat supported the cheat and defended his actions notwithstanding open admissions of cheating in IRC chat - how do I report that please ?
Additional to that, another IRC member purported to be a mod who subsequently turned out not to be. This was after he/she purported to have dealt with the issue of cheating to placate me and "save the cheater" - how do I report that too pls ?
Thank you
Ian

Just to add ...
It is becoming increasing difficult to enjoy a game because of a select few and when the matter is raised in IRC it is obvious that there is a collective of people who cheat and they lie to protect themselves. Can anything be done about this or are the mods in the IRC the same people who have the power on here (in which case I may as well uninstall everything) ?

  SuperBounce on ctf-terminal
Posted by: {DO}Rigel - 07-05-2012, 07:19 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Here are a couple trick demos I recorded on ctf-terminal. I'm calling it a "SuperBounce." Basically you double tap to do a dodge jump, but then you gun jump on that, which can really send you flying. If you can get to places nobody expects, then they will be less lined up when they go to shoot at you. You might be surprised what a big difference it makes Cool

Tongue I am alive!
Posted by: xenos - 07-03-2012, 08:47 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi everyone, it's been a long while I know, but I have the regular handful of excuses for my absence [Image: tongue.gif]

Firstly, congrats to the development team, I still pop into the forums and keep an eye on svn, the next release of Alien Arena is going to be nothing shy of epic.

Anyone who has been around for a while has seen the quality of every game asset improved and reinvented through years of Irritant persisting, learning and improving the many skills used in such a project, which can clearly be seen in the games development and where it stands today.

It seems fitting that you would move on to another project after this release, you really have taken Alien Arena about as far as it can be taken. I look forward to seeing Alteria unfold.

To all those that know me, I miss playing and mumbling with you, time just doesn't allow me to do anything fun at all atm, and doesn't look like changing for a good while yet.

I'd like to dedicate a special edition tea bagging to Skivs Shy Congrats on the new clan, love the name btw.

I am trying to get aaradiant finished, I doubt I'll have it finished by the time the next release occurs. I'll try and get the next accessory/map packs out shortly after release. I still don't have a web site cranking for aa3rdparty.org which currently only hosts the accessory pack, because it is too large for google code. I do have plans to sort something when I get the chance.

Good health and happiness to all, until next we meet. Shy

  Work Of Art (Graphics, Drawings...)

In the old forum we had a thread about it and there were a lot of good stuff in there. This thread should be alive in this forum, too! Ok, upload your graphics, drawings...and we will admire all of them Smile.

  New Alien Arena review
Posted by: DeathRay - 06-29-2012, 11:40 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Overall well thought out and fair - 8/10 - http://www.dedoimedo.com/games/alien-arena-7-53.html

While I disagree with the premise that it hasn't evolved much since the 2009 release, I can understand his point. It's a pretty good review though, and worth a read to get an outside perspective of AA.

  Website downtime

I've noticed that red.planetarena.org has been going down for a few minutes at a time for the last few days. This has happened at home and at work, which are on entirely separate ISPs.

Anyone else notice this?

Lightbulb Adding System Spec to Profiles
Posted by: {DO}Rigel - 06-21-2012, 02:51 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

I've been looking for a facility that will allow users to show there system specs here in the new AA forums. Not only is this fun and interesting for everyone, but it can really help with troubleshooting when users post technical difficulties.

It seems there are a number of ways to do it, but its looking like there are 2 methods that would work for us.

Method 1 Confused
You can create "custom Profile Fields." Then, optionally you can edit the postbit (or postbit_classic) template to add some or all of the fields. In my reading, the indication is that this does an ok job, but isn't the best solution.

Method 2 Cool
You can install a plugin. This one below is done by a guy (labrocca @ http://www.mybbcentral.com) who gets much love and respect. I haven't been able to find an example of it to preview, but I'm guessing it must be pretty damned cool (by what other's have said). Its also customizable enough to be used for things other than system specs (if you edit the language file).

My_Specs_v1.zip Exclamation You need to have at least 1 post in their forum to DL it Tongue
Plugin Description: Ads a system specs link in postbit as an image that will create a popup. Usercp nav item to enter your system details included.

Lightbulb View Unread Posts Plugin for MyBB
Posted by: {DO}Rigel - 06-20-2012, 07:42 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

I don't care much about "new posts" or "today's posts," I just want to see what I haven't read yet. I found a plugin for MyBB that filters for "unread posts" in a manner similar to what phpBB3 does. I think this might be exactly what I'm looking for (if it works).

Heart Could we please try this? Heart
