However, the same static mesh might need to get rendered 20 times per frame if a lot of them are placed, so the polycounts can easily add up to huge numbers and performance will suffer accordingly.
That wasn't the point I was making actually - what I was saying is that yes, once per mesh, but in a map there might be a huge amount of different meshes, say 35-40 unique items, thus filling up memory with a bunch of VBO's, so having 40 meshes with 2000 polys each is going to use up a lot of resources.

RE: Generation 3
I have been keeping my eye on gtkradiant projects to see whether anyone has attempted to implement iqm viewing, no luck so far, bet it would be a bastard of a job. Big Grin

RE: Generation 3
I could attempt it, although last time I tried poking through the Radiant source I came away with a bad infestation of Lovecraftian horrors.

RE: Generation 3
Here is the raw model, without normal mapping, glows, etc. The Commander will be the next unveiled, maybe later this evening. As before when the Gen 2 models were released, some are going to like the changes, some are not, but the changes are coming one way or another.

RE: Generation 3
I've always said that the commander needed something to make him look a little more ermm, threatening for lack of a better word. Well done Irritant.

RE: Generation 3
Thanks Smile

I should add the polycount of the Commander is now 2914, which is still pretty low, but I don't see much area to bump it up with good reason.

The Enforcer model will likely be redone using pieces of this model as a start, such as the arms/hands/head/legs/pelvis, and get new forearms, boots, armor, etc. The existing enforcer model has some minor structural issues that are physiologically incorrect and odd.

I will do the Martian Enforcer next so that I can upload all of this to SVN and not have mismatching Martians. Then I'll probably do the Slashbot, because at first glance this will only require some mesh work and no reskinning, as I feel that is the one model that was really well done and modern.

RE: Generation 3
Actually, these new martians look pretty good! In the other pictures they looked like zombies, but not in the latest pictures in this thread, more like a hybrid with the alien from Alien(s).
Also, the commander is a very good improvement.
