New Tutorial for IRC
k, so the old one wasnt good enough and i decided to make a new one:

download IceChat and install it.

start IceChat and click in the left pane on favorite server

there probably is a list of servers in there, but ours is not
so we need to add a server.
in the left pane, near the bottom, is a button called 'add new'.

the following screen will come up:

you write in the box: irc.planetarena.org and click next.
the port should be 6667 and is there by default.
if it is not 6667, u type it there:

click next and write the channel(s) u wish to connect to.
#alienarena. if u like to connect to more channels, devide them with a comma, looking like this: #alienarena,#aaclan

click next.
in this box you type the nick u wish to use:

click next.
in this box u can tell IceChat to autoperform a few things,
like identifying to nickserv. this will only be possible once u registered your nick (regs and .ac. people only, ask an admin for help to register):

click next.
the following screen shows what u did so far.
if that looks like this screenie, click next:

the last screen will ask u to save, which u, of course, will do:

now u will see in the server list a server named irc.planetarena.org.
double click it and you will join the server and channel(s) u specified:

RE: New Tutorial for IRC
This is now the simplest way to get to IRC that I know of: http://ducesoforion.com/aa_irc.html

My original post:

I thought it might be useful to post the following link here. It is a browser IRC client that does not require any installation:

http://aachat.brutalbrainwork.com

This link comes from a post in another thread on this client: http://red.planetarena.org/forum/showthr...91#pid3491

Edit:
Try this one too!:

RE: R: New Tutorial for IRC
Pidgin can handle IRC and xChat http://www.pidgin.im/ or xChat http://xchat.org/

Good Post Bon -- I think this should be on an AA webpage as well (when someone can). Looks like some of the AA web pages are starting to look much better -- that is great.....

Can you ad 'How to Register your Nick' on the IRC server as well?

RE: New Tutorial for IRC
Registering your nick in our irc network is very simple.

Pick your nickname you want to use, obviously a nick that is a derivative of an existing registered nick will cause you problems registering.

Pick a password with at least 8 characters, (for security reasons the more characters the harder to guess). AND WRITE IT DOWN somewhere.

the Nicks are encrypted and the admins can not read them. We will not be able to recover a password for you. The most we will be able to do is drop your registered nick, which will allow you to re-register it.

An email address is not required, as we can not recover your password. If you want to include an email address for admins to be able to verify that it is you requesting we drop your nick, that would be to your advantage.

Now for the actual registering of your nick, enter this:/nickserv register [yourpassword] [email]

You should do this from the console window rather than the main channel, this way if you make a mistake entering the command you won't be posting your attempted password and email into the main channel.

That is basically all there is to registering your nick on our network. If you have problems you can pm me either in forums or in irc as my machine is always idling. Even if I am not there, at the time you pm me in irc, I will see the additional window and can address your problems when I get back to the machine.

Have fun!

RE: New Tutorial for IRC
only need to add, that once registered, the irc servers will ask u to identify.
this way, the servers know that u really is u.

/nickserv identify [yourpassword]

of course u do this too in the console and not in the main window.

beside that, most irc clients support for u to identify on connect.
because most clients differ from eachother and we cant only be busy
playing around with all the different clients, u need to figure this out urself,
or ask somebody u know uses the same client u do.

RE: New Tutorial for IRC
The best way to get to IRC is to use the web client Alien Arena IRC (you can also click the link from our homepage http://red.planetarena.org)
